What About Guy Sparger?

Guysparger.com is my personal Instagram—minus the algorithms, ads, and Zuckerbergs. It’s where I post the whatever of my days: behind-the-scenes workshop shots, DIY experiments, road dust, and the occasional caption that might make you snort coffee. It’s also a growing visual archive of my life’s work, filtered through humor, sarcasm, and a healthy dose of desert grit.

The Guy Sparger Backstory:

I grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina, drawing since I could grip a crayon. At 14, I started carving wood for money and never really stopped making things. I hold two art degrees, which led me through sign shops, cabinetry shops, and eventually into the dotcom boom, where I helped build the early internet. Then came a decade in the video game industry as a 3D artist and animator—my name’s in the credits of more than half a dozen PC, Xbox, Playstation, and Nintendo titles.

Baltimore was my college town and first game job. Chicago was my second. In 2000, I moved to San Clemente, California for my third and final game gig. Four years later, I bought a house in Arizona City, Arizona, and started doing my own thing full-time in the Hungry Knife workshop. We didn’t officially call it that until 2007, but the spirit was there from day one: build cool stuff, break it occasionally, and share what works.

This site isn’t trying to sell you anything. It’s here to document the process—Jeep trails, crazy prototypes, DIY behind-the-scenes, adventure fun times, whatever else I get into. If it’s useful, I’ll explain it. If it’s funny, I’ll post it. If it’s broken, I’ll probably post that, too.
