Mid 90’s For the Holidays
I made this Halloween card for Patty in 1996 (we’ve been together since ’94). The photo cutout is a picture of two freaks from back in the day. I snapped this while we were getting wasted in a basement punk rock club in Baltimore.
It made it through the postal system with a 32 cent stamp and address 😀
Patty was in the metals program at Penland School Of Crafts, near Asheville,NC. I was in Chapel Hill, NC making a video game (X-Com Interceptor).
Spider Baby Is Totally Legit (((I got new pens!)))…
I recently bought some new marker pens. Now I’m busy rediscovering felt tip markers 🙂 This spider baby is my first example:
I drew the lines of this perfectly reasonable illustration with a Parker ballpoint and Micron technical pens. Color was added with Tombow markers.
I haven’t worked with art markers since the early 90’s. I almost always draw in a sketchbook and I use both sides of each page. Technical, drafting pens, pencil and cheap ballpoint pens are my usual tools because they don’t bleed through the paper.
I recently discovered these new (to me) dual tip markers by Tombow. They’re pretty nice and not too expensive compared to other art markers. Most importantly to me, they don’t bleed through.
I drew this color burst as a test. The paper was heavily saturated with layers of ink but the opposite side of the page remained pristine …totally impressed.

Hiding (WAY) Out
This is Charles Manson’s pick-up truck. Some say it actually ‘belonged’ to Tex Watson. I heard (from a local historian) it was stolen. Whatever. Fact is, the Manson Family was using it to bounce around Death Valley and left it stuck in the mud near Ballarat ghost town in 1969.
That’s where I found it when I snapped this photo in 2003. I’ve been occasionally Photoshopping on it ever since, jus’cause 🙂 This is the latest variation.
